Pics of Shaved Cats

Shaved Pets
There is a little bit of debate about whether shaving a cat is really helpful or if it will just make the cat unnecessarily uncomfortable. Ask your vet's opinion first. Lion cuts are pretty standard for Persian cats, like Jake's cat Thompson. Most groomers won't shave the cat entirely: the fur on the cat's feet, head, and tail all serve specific purposes.
If you decide to shave the cat, we recommend going to a professional groomer and not trying to do it yourself (anyone who has ever tried to give a cat a bath can guess why). There are cat specialists in New York, although most dog groomers also groom cats. Call around and ask. Paws in Chelsea was highly recommended to us. You can also check out Citysearch's list of groomers and this directory of groomers. Grooming the cat will likely cost between $50 and $80, depending where you go.

  4. I wonder when people will finally "get it" that cats were created with beautiful, insulating fur for a REASON. It keeps them cool in summer and warm in winter, and they clean themselves better than any other species. Can't that be enough? People in the industrialized nations need to find something better to do than obsess over changing everything on the face of the earth. Maybe HELPING OTHERS would be a good start?!! There are millions of cats who need loving forever homes -- why not start there???

  5. why not adopt a cat instead of shave one?
because I already adopted a cat, can only afford to take care of 1 cat, and shave it when it's fur gets matted and greasy. haha you have the most hilarious plight ever.

    lighten up.

  6. Some cats need to be shaved for various reasons. Persians especially. It can be due to climate control. Persians in hot weather with their long fur can be dangerous for them. They can overheat easily. Also, if you don't keep up with bathing/brushing large clumps/matting can form. The breeder I got my persian from bathed her cats once a week! As a cat gets older they may slack in grooming themselves so shaving is an option. It does not hurt the cat what so ever! It's like you getting your hair shaved. So grow up people, not all of those who shave their cat are doing it for shock value. Some have a very good reason!

  10. All three of my cats were adopted and are absolute ANGELS! However; I do shave my female cat bc she is slightly overwieght, and cannot clean her rear properly so this helps her greatly. We live in VA were it gets EXTREMELY muggy/humid and HOT and she loves to be shaved down, she will sit and let me do it with no trouble and then prances around to show it off. Honestly I could care less what they look like bc they are so sweet. I just payed 1200 dollars yesterday to have my oldest cats luxating patella repaired, and will stay home to care for him for the next 16 weeks bc I love him so, so I owuld hope that I would not pegged as a cat abuser just for doing what is necessary to help my cats live a healthy and happy life.

  11. Yes, shaving a cat can be necessary but I have to admit it pissed me off to see the one in the snow!

  12. My boyfriend and I are seriously considering shaving our cat because we have both realized that we itch bc of his fur. I brush him daily and we bath him as well but he still sheds like crazy. We love him and refuse to get rid of him bc of his fur. Its safe to shave cats,it is like getting a hair cut and who cares if cat owners choose to do this.....its not like de-clawing them (which I would never consider).
